About Tiglath

The Head of Jeffrey McArthur

Who was Tiglath?

Tiglath-pileser was king of Assyria. The ancient Assyrian's facinate me. Lord Byron wrote a poem about a Sennacherib, another king of Assyria, called The Destruction of Sennacherib. Tiglath-pileser is mentioned in the Bible, in 2 Kings 15:29:

Who is Tiglath?

I am the manager of a small group of programmers. I truely love my job. We develop database entry systems. There are often days where things don't go right or I have to fight problems that seem insolvable. But in general, I love what I do for a living. I don't like to get out of bed in the morning, who does; but once I am up and showered, I actually look forward to going to work.

A Picture of Me and My Office at Work

As you can see in the picture above, I have my dragon mug full of tea sitting next to me. On my left is my stereo. You can only see the back of one of my computer monitors. Behind me is a window and my beautiful view of the parking lot.

I really like the lines in Kipling's poem If about taking all your winnings and risking them on a turn of pitch-and-toss. I worked for the University of Utah for four and a half years as a programmer. I was earning "slave wages". Even though I was not making a lot of money I was able to put a little aside. Two friends and I formed a software company. I dumped all my savings into the company. To make a long story short, I lost it all. It was not a lot of money, but it was all I had. The only thing I got out of it was a painting. We had hired and artist to paint a cover for one of the games we were designing. I have the painting hanging in my office at work. So I have risked all my winnings. Looking back on it, I can say it was fun. For a few weeks I was really riding high. I learned a lot about business; and about friends. I learned the hard way, never go into business with friends, you will either loose the business or the friends or both. I lost both.

Just call me Tig

I have been chatting on Yahoo! for several years. Long enough to have made a few friends, and even a few enemies.

Lyrics

I love music. Until recently I almost never had the opportunity to listen to music. Now I load up my PocketPC with a lot of music. I have a 512 Meg Compact Flash card for my HP Jornda that I fill with MP3 files. If you are interested in seeing what music I like, click on the link below.
