Installing Yahoo! Messenger

Yahoo! messenger is available from Yahoo! website. From the main Yahoo page select Messenger, then the "Get It Now" link or just click here to start the installation.

  1. When the following dialog will displays, click the "Next" button. Yahoo! Messenger Installation Dialog

  2. The following dialog should display: Yahoo! End User Licence
You should read the License Agreement, but no one really does. And you can't install the software unless you click "I Accept".

  3. The following dialog should display: Destination Directory
Leave the default directory alone! If you change it, you will not be able to install any of Tiglath's emotes. Click the "Next" button.

  4. The following dialog should display: Ready To Install
Notice the little check box. Do you want Yahoo! to start up automatically when you turn your computer on? Personally I prefer to start up Yahoo! manually. This little check box lets you control automatic startup. You can change your mind later, but that is another tutorial. Click the "Next" button.

  5. The program will start to download and you should see something that looks like this: Download Progress
Yahoo Messenger should be installed when the progress bar reaches 100%.

  6. Click the Get a Yahoo! ID button in the Login window in order to sign up for a Yahoo! ID.
    Yahoo! Login Dialog

  7. Fill out the blank information fields on the Sign Up Now page.
    Yahoo Id Form

  8. After registering for your Yahoo! ID, close all windows except the Login screen.
    Yahoo! Login Dialog

  9. In the Yahoo ID field, type your Yahoo! ID. In the Password field, type the password you specified when creating your Yahoo! ID.
    Enter Yahoo! ID
Notice the little check box "Remeber my ID & Password". I would strongly recommend that you uncheck that box and login in. Checking that is a security problem. Finally, you can click the "Login" button.

  10. Yahoo! will log you in and the Yahoo! messegner window should now appear.

All that remains is to change the default preferences to enhance your security while chatting, but that is another tutorial. Congratulations, Yahoo! messenger is now installed on your system.
