Tiglath's Emote Frequently Asked Questions
How do I enable the emotes?
By default, emotes are disabled in the new messenger. The emote list is now controled by the menu.
Click on the View menu option.
Click on the Emotions List. If that is checked the emotes should now be available.
Why didn't I reply to your email?
There are three main reasons I don't reply to email. The first reason, and the one that concerns me the most, is virus attachments. I get a LOT of email with virus attachments. This has been a serious problem. I once accused someone of trying to send me a virus, I was wrong, and apologize for that; but the timing was very bad. About 30% to 40% of the email I get has a virus attachment. That is how bad it is. If I get a virus attachment from you, your name will end up on my kill list, and I will never see your email again. So before you send me an email, please do a virus scan on your PC.
The second reason I don't answer is sometimes I have no idea how to reply. If someone says "send me your emotes", I don't reply because I have no idea what set or sets they want. I prefer everyone download emotes rather than request to have them sent via email.
The third reason I don't reply is time. I am married, going back to school to get a degree in business management, do a Bible study each night, and chat (way too much). I also put together this website and create new emotes. So sometime replying to email falls to the bottom of my priority list.
What are emotes?
Emotes are small pieces of text that can be pasted into a chat room. It is possible to achieve almost the same affect by cutting and pasting text from a file and pasting it into the chat window. The advantage emotes have is that it is easier, and emotes have a limited replacement ability. The most common replacement is putting someone's chat name into an emote.

I installed the wrong set of emotes, how can I put the right set in?
My install program is designed to overwrite the emotes. If you downloaded the wrong set, just download the correct set and the wrong set will be overridden.
Can you send me the emotes?
Please download the emotes from the website: Tiglath's Emotes
Can I use emotes in a Private Message (PM)?
Yahoo! Messenger does not allow that. But instead of trying create a private room. Then you can use the emotes.
I get the error 'Messenger not installed or installed in non-standard directory.'
Hopefully this problem is less frequent than it was in the past. This may still be a problem on some systems. The install program cannot find where Yahoo! Messenger is installed.
I have been tryin to install and download the emotes but it just keeps coming back with you are not authorized and I might not have permission.
I believe this is a rights issue. The install program trys to find where Yahoo! Messenger is installed. First it looks in the "standard place" for the file. If it doesn't find it there, then it opens up the registry and searchs for Messenger. If you do not have access rights to read the registry (basically only guest rights) then I believe this error occurs. I will try and resolve this issue.
Is it possible to delete individual emotes?
Yes, it is possible, but not simple (yet). I have not written a tutorial on how to do this yet. I am also working on a program to make this easier to do.

I am getting Y-Pager errors, what can I do?
The best solution is to complain to Yahoo! Tell them what is wrong. Maybe, someday, Yahoo! will fix the problem. You can report problems at: Yahoo! Chat > Chat Help > Feedback
Someone booted me. What do I do?
The best solution is to complain to Yahoo! Tell them what happened and who did it. Yahoo! may yank their account if enough people complain. You can fill out an Abuse Report at: Yahoo! Chat Abuse Report
Why you don't you have the dancing smilie on the smilies emotes?
The dancing smilie is \:D/. The problem is emotes use \ as the separator between the different parts in an emote: its name, the room emote, and the peson emote.
For example: the "custom" emote which comes as part of the default emotes with messenger looks like this:
Custom\Hey room you can create custom emotions by editing the emote_user.dat file\Hey %s you can create custom emotions by editing the emote_user.dat file
There are two "\", to separate the name and the two different pieces. The dance smilie has a "\" in it. So you can't use the dance smilie in an emote.
